If you use the contact form, the site collects the information you enter, such as your name, email address and message.

This information is used to respond to your enquiry and manage any resulting correspondence. The usual lawful basis is Tony’s legitimate interest in responding to people who contact him. Where an enquiry concerns a possible booking, purchase or other agreement, processing may also be necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract.

Please do not include sensitive or unnecessary personal information in your message.

If you join the email list, the site collects your email address, the date of signup and a record of your consent.

Your email address is used to send occasional news about Tony’s books, research, talks and new releases. The lawful basis is your consent.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in an email or by writing to tony@ibl.ie. Withdrawing from the email list does not automatically change your cookie preferences, and changing your cookie preferences does not unsubscribe you from emails.

Basic delivery, bounce and unsubscribe information may be processed by the email-delivery provider.

The website’s hosting, database and security services may process limited technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as IP address, browser type, request time and security logs.

This processing is based on Tony’s legitimate interests in maintaining a secure and reliable website.

The site uses two categories of storage and tracking technology.

Essential technologies are needed to operate the site securely and remember your cookie choice. They are always active.

They are not used for advertising, profiling or cross-site tracking.

Advertising technologies are optional. They remain off unless you actively choose Accept advertising.

If you reject non-essential cookies or ignore the banner:

• the Meta Pixel does not load;
• no Meta advertising cookies are set by this site;
• no events are sent to Meta; and
• no customer information is used for Advanced Matching.

Consent can be withdrawn at any time through Cookie preferences in the website footer.

Browser settings, privacy tools and changes made by Meta may affect whether these cookies are created and how long they remain.

Meta may also use information or cookies associated with its own services where a visitor is logged into Facebook or Instagram. Further information is available in Meta’s Cookie Policy.

If you accept advertising technologies, the site loads the Meta Pixel from connect.facebook.net.

The Pixel may record:

• visits to pages on this website;
• interactions with the book pages;
• clicks on buttons leading to Amazon;
• successful email-list signups;
• the page address and referring page;
• IP address and browser or device information;
• Meta click and browser identifiers, including _fbc and _fbp; and
• a hashed version of an email address entered into a site form, as explained below.

This information is used to:

• understand whether Meta advertisements lead to visits and actions;
• attribute site activity to advertising campaigns;
• measure and improve advertising performance;
• match site events with Meta accounts;
• produce aggregated advertising reports; and
• create or refine advertising audiences, including retargeting audiences, where used.

Tony does not receive the identity of the Meta account to which an event is matched. Reports provided to Tony are generally aggregated.

The Pixel does not provide Tony with your Amazon payment information or confirmation of what you purchase on Amazon.

Automatic Advanced Matching is enabled for email address only.

If advertising consent is active and you enter an email address into the contact form or email-list form, Meta’s technology may detect, normalise and hash that email address before it is transmitted to Meta. Meta uses the hashed value to try to match the site event with a Meta account.

Hashing reduces direct readability but does not make the information anonymous.

The following Advanced Matching fields are not enabled:

• name;
• telephone number;
• postal address;
• town, county or postcode;
• country;
• date of birth;
• gender; and
• external customer ID.

The content of a contact-form message is not intentionally sent to Meta.

Meta advertising technologies operate only on the basis of your consent.

You may:

• accept advertising technologies;
• reject non-essential technologies;
• leave the banner unanswered, in which case they remain off; or
• withdraw consent later through Cookie preferences.

Withdrawing consent stops future Pixel events and removes Meta cookies set on this website’s domain where technically possible. You may also delete cookies through your browser.

Withdrawing consent does not require Meta to delete information it received while consent was valid. Requests concerning Meta’s subsequent processing should be directed to Meta.

Meta Platforms Ireland Limited receives information through the Meta Pixel and Advanced Matching.

For certain collection and transmission of event data through Meta Business Tools, Tony and Meta may act as joint controllers under Meta’s Business Tools Terms. Meta acts as a separate controller for its subsequent use of information for matching, advertising, measurement and its other stated purposes.

Meta’s own processing is governed by Meta’s Privacy Policy.

Personal information may be processed by service providers used to operate the site, including providers of:

• website hosting;
• database storage;
• security and technical infrastructure;
• contact-form delivery;
• email-list management and email delivery; and
• advertising measurement.

These providers process information only as needed to provide their services or under their own applicable privacy terms.

Personal information may also be disclosed where required by law, to protect legal rights or to investigate misuse or security incidents.

Meta and some website or email service providers may process information outside the United Kingdom or European Economic Area.

Where required, transfers are made using recognised safeguards such as adequacy regulations, approved standard contractual clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum. Further information about Meta’s transfers and safeguards is available in Meta’s Privacy Policy.

Information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary:

• Contact enquiries: normally for up to 12 months after the enquiry is resolved, unless longer retention is required for an ongoing relationship, legal obligation or potential claim.
• Email list: until you unsubscribe, the address becomes invalid or the email list closes.
• Unsubscribe records: a minimal suppression record may be retained so that your request not to receive further emails can be respected.
• Cookie preference: normally for up to 6 months before the site asks again.
• Security logs: for the period reasonably required to maintain and investigate website security.
• Meta information: retained by Meta according to its own terms and privacy policies. Tony does not control Meta’s retention periods.

Depending on the circumstances, you may have the right to:

• ask for a copy of your personal information;
• correct inaccurate information;
• ask for information to be deleted;
• restrict how information is used;
• object to processing based on legitimate interests;
• receive information you supplied in a portable format; and
• withdraw consent at any time.

Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before withdrawal.

Tony does not use personal information to make solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Meta may personalise advertising under its own policies.
