Chalfont St Giles in pictures

Local author, historian and storyteller Tony Ferguson presented the history of Chalfont St Giles in pictures — a hundred years of a Buckinghamshire village told through photographs, postcards and the people who happened to be standing in frame.

The talk follows the village from the late Victorian era through two world wars and into the post-war decades: the shops that came and went, the pond, the green, the arrival of the motor car, the wartime years, and the slow transformation of a working rural parish into a commuter village. Familiar corners appear again and again across the century, which is what makes the changes so easy to read.

A recorded version of the talk — Pictorial History of Chalfont St Giles 1895–1995 — is available to watch online.
